 CLOSED ALPHA!

In light of our debut on Steam were hosting a Closed Alpha from the 20th until the 27th of June! So be sure to head over to our discord to sign up and stick around for a chat with everyone or discuss cool ideas and make some new pals!

NEW TRAILER!

To celebrate our launch on steam we have a new Early Access Trailer! Head over to our Steam store page or below to our youtube channel to check it out!

We recorded some cool shots from events and put together a nice little clip to help show off the current arenas in all their glory as well as some awesome skill filled plays. We hope to release some more amazing trailers in the future showing off gameplay fro events as well as new content so be sure to stay up to date with our social media!

Current Focus

For the commencing week, we will be focusing on our Closed Alpha and implementing fixes and suggestions from testers and the public to help polish the game a little more before we release on Steam. If you want to keep in the loop a little more interactively you can join our discord! Or, as always you can follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

Insomnia 62!

We were at i62! First of all, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along and saw us show off all our hard work! Whether you had a play or came and visited our stand over the weekend, its because of you guys that we love doing this and to see so many of you supporting us and giving great feedback.

So really, thank you!

This event really opened our eyes to how massive the indie community is at conventions and expos all over. A massive thank you also to the other devs that were there, who helped make the long weekend that much more fun! Since the start of our journey, we have travelled all over, to show as many people as possible our hard work and dedication, to help make our first game a reality and the best we know it can be.

Insomnia 62!

Hopefully the first of many Insomnia’s and many other conventions/events, we had great fun and couldn’t believe the awesome feedback from you all. As well as some great suggestions for new traps and items there were some cool ideas for new arenas and characters too! Don’t be disheartened if you didn’t manage to come and see us, we post all our upcoming events on our social media so be sure to stay up to date! We saw so many of you there and managed to get some shots of the event and action shots of you guys too!

 Sir Waysalot!

To accompany our new and colourful art style we have given Sir Waysalot a new look! We hope that you guys agree with us in saying that we think he looks right at home in his Medieval Dimension!

New Arena!

Those of you who came along to play will have probably seen our new arena The Joust!

With a rectangular shape, it has some interesting possibilities for trap combinations. The top and bottom both have a pretty brutal Jousting Knight who’ll send you flying if you get in its way! The board in the middle can help give you a little cover from those projectiles and help make for more strategic and intense battles!

Current Focus

After receiving so much great feedback from Insomnia and with us quickly approaching our anticipated Early Access release we will be working hard over the next few weeks to fix bugs found at i62 and implementing the remaining content and features we had planned and a few other changes and suggestions. We know a lot of you are eagerly awaiting a release date but unfortunately, these things always come with complications and things we just cannot foresee. As always we post all updates on our social media so please be sure to keep up to date and follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

What is Guardians Of The Past?

To put it simply, Guardians Of The Past is a multiplayer brawler in which the players build the arena before they battle.

Each player can place up to 3 traps prior to the ‘Battle Phase’. Each trap can affect the player in a different way, whether that’s dealing lots of damage, slowing the player’s movement or pushing the player about.

Once the ‘Battle Phase’ begins, all players can be affected by all traps, and players can use any traps to score kills on their opponents.

While in the ‘Battle Phase’ the players can also pick up ‘Gadgets’. These items are can be used to push and pull other players, as well as invert controls and switch places with opponents. When combined with traps, the results can be deadly.

FAQ

When is it out?

We don’t have a release date yet. We hoped to be on Steam Early Access by next month, however, some unforeseen issues with banking mean it could be May 2018 instead.

Does it have online multiplayer?

In short, yes, some of the gifs above are from a multiplayer session, it’s not as polished as the local multiplayer version and has a few more bugs.

Any plans for a console release?

We are currently in contact with Microsoft, with the plan to release on Xbox One in the Online Store. If we are accepted then we’ll let you know the details once we finalise them. We also hope to release on the PS4 and Nintendo switch as well, we’ve just got to get around to talking to them first.

How about a Solo/Co-op campaign?

In short, not right now. We’d love to, we really would, but we have to think about ‘scope’. We’ve even experimented with how it would work, but we are just a two-man team. We aren’t ruling it out completely, but it’s not in the plan for final release.

Play Expo Blackpool!

We Had great fun showing Guardians OTP off at our latest playtest event in Blackpool at the #PlayExpoBlackpool. If you missed us don’t be sad we’re planning on showing our progress and new features at other event’s this year so be sure to follow our social media!

The Face Lift

We have been hard at work changing the look of our game and are constantly improving our theme! We have decided to take on a low poly style to add a little more character to our universe and Arenas! We have also added some new animations for the traps, keep a look out for them in our most recent gameplay video starring players from #PlayExpoBlackpool2018.

We have also changed the way players build traps with new build animations for both the traps and the new Hexagon shaped tiles that house all number of wonderful surprises!

Thanks to everyone who took our new art-style for a spin and played Guardians OTP at Blackpool. Hopefully, we will see a few of you again at future conventions!

Battle of The Devs!

Given that, obviously, this game is competitive by nature the two of us decided to have a 1v1 Match while we were in Blackpool and here is the outcome. We’ll leave you to decide who was who…

Current Focus

Right now we are working hard to smooth over bugs and issues that reared their heads while at Play Expo as-well as reviewing the fantastic amount of feedback we received improving mechanics and elements that will help make the game that much more enjoyable!

Welcome!

Today marks the official release of our brand new website for Squidpunch Studios!

This will be a place where you can find out about us and Guardians Of The Past in more depth, and also give us a chance to blog the latest goings on at Squidpunch.

What’s Happening?

Well, it’s been quite a busy few months since Squidpunch were at Aberdeen for the 4TG Game Con. We had a lot of fun and loads of people got to play the early addition of Guardians Of The Past. If you would like to read our last newsletter. (Here you go http://mailchi.mp/52060320dda7/squidpunch-in-aberdeen) Since then, our main objectives have been fixing the countless bugs we uncovered during our trip.

We also wanted to make “GOTP” a better visual experience, this was a big thing we noticed at Aberdeen. Especially the item animations, which we knew needed to be implemented, however, we didn’t quite anticipate the impact of not having them would have. If you haven’t been keeping up to date with our social media then you may have missed our weapons animation update.

More recently, our main goal has been the creation of our first trailer. We do this with two objectives in mind. Firstly, after a year of development and the fantastic feedback we received from Aberdeen, we want to show more of the “GOTP” than GIFs will allow us. Secondly, we are hoping to get awarded an Unreal Dev Grant. This will help us to continue working on “GOTP” for a lot longer and make it the game we have been dreaming about for the past year.

Future

In the long term, don’t worry, everything doesn’t hang on whether we get the Unreal Dev Grant or not. If we do, it’s a nice surprise and if it’s not meant to be, then we have other options that we’ll discuss when the time comes. But in the short term, we are catching up on the online multiplayer side of “GOTP” which got a little left behind in the build-up to Aberdeen.
